A “Magnificent” Sea Fury, 803 Sqdn, Royal Canadian Navy.

Hawker Sea Fury FB.11 from H.M.C.S. Magnificent on first commissioning, 1948

Canada didn’t have a Naval air arm until December 1945, when Canada acquired HMCS Warrior, the first of three aircraft carriers that would serve with the Royal Canadian Navy. Warrior was an interim vessel, equipped with Seafire F.15, and Firefly aircraft. She would serve until the second carrier, HMCS Magnificent commissioned in the RCN.

Magnificent’s Air Group was equipped with Hawker Sea Fury FB.11 aircraft of which this is an example.

This Sea Fury is in the early factory scheme, the same as Roysl Navy ones. The basis is the 1/48 Airfix kit with Xtradecal after market decals.

Folland Gnat trainer built for "Out of the Box" night.

Hello everyone,

Here are some photos of my Gnat:

The Folland Gnat trainer was an outgrowth of a lightweight single seat jet fighter designed by W.E.W. Petter of Whirlwind and Lysander fame. It did not find favour with the Royal Air Force, die to it's short range, but did serve with the Finnish and Indian air forces, the latter calling it the "Sabre Killer". The RAF opted for the 2 seat trainer version to train fast jet pilots due to convert onto the Lightning and Phantom. It was the mount of the Red Arrows aerobatic team for a decade and a half, ultimately being replaced by the Hawker Siddeley Hawk.

This model is the current Airfix 1/48 scale Folland Gnat, built entirely from the kit contents. The finish is Alclad High Speed Silver, and a mixture of Testor and Humbrol Dayglo orange paints.

The last photo has my "Yellowjacks" Gnat, the Precursor to the Red Arrows.
